Kate FranssenTryouts are held during the St. Paul Winter Carnival in January, often inside the Landmark Center in downtown St. Paul.

Kate Franssen was named the 2010 Bouncing Girl and Christine Pearson was named this year's alternate. Both of these lovely young ladies have been performing at parades and events this year!

Bouncing Girls are selected through an annual, entertaining public tryout process. Spectators and the media are encouraged to attend. Capturing a live bounce on film pretty much always looks great, and Bouncing Girls can reach heights of 20 feet or more. All past Bouncing Girls, pullers, and their families are also invited.

Bouncing Girl Ali Wins Her Tryout!Potential Bouncing Girls should please consider the following for tryouts:

Age: All candidates must be 21 years of age or older.

Dress: Athletic wear is recommended, including tennis shoes and flexible clothing.

Experience: No prerequisite experience is needed and practice bounces are allowed. Having a background in cheerleading, ice skating, or gymnastics may be helpful to know what to expect.

Height/Weight: The lighter she is, the higher she flies. That said, there is no weight restriction for the blanket. We’ve bounced former Governor Jesse Ventura, NFL all-pro center Matt Birk, and Santa Claus. Aerialists typically weigh less than 115 pounds, but athletic women have done well at varied weights.

Judging: Candidates are judged on altitude, poise, control, and enthusiasm.

Each year, we select one Bouncing Girl that will serve a three-year term. The new Bouncing Girl should expect to perform in 10 to 12 events each year over the next three years.

Supporting three primary Bouncing Girls is one alternate who serves for the current year only. Our senior Bouncing Girl for 2010 is Ali Lukin, and the Saint Paul Winter Carnival's 2010 Grande Day Parade marked the end of Nicole Gergen's three-year term. Stephanie Wilmes-Hess rounds out our current roster of high-flying princesses with Ali, Kate, and Christine.

In 2010, we are makig a strong push to bring in some new blood on the outside of the blanket. We're looking for enthusiastic, friendly, team-oriented men with strong arms and backs that want to represent the rich traditions of the city of Saint Paul on parade routes and at events throughout the year. We're a lot of fun to hang out with.
